biography
For as long as she can remember, Julanda Frater has been committed to getting a sound education. Although her eyes are set on being a successful dancehall artiste, beating the books to ensure a solid future has always been a priority.
Known as Julanda, she shows her passion for education and music on ‘Book Boss’, one of her latest songs. Currently preparing for her second year in nursing (midwifery) at Exed Community College in Kingston, Jamaica, the single perfectly captures the singjay’s mindset.
“In the future, if things don’t work out with the music, there’s always something you can fall back on. I would really like a career in the medical field,” she said.
Born in Kingston, Julanda has been recording music for five years. Pointing to Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and Alaine as her biggest influences, she has released five songs to date including ‘Inna di Media’ and ‘Jiggle It’.
Those tracks, along with ‘Book Boss’, are expected to be on her first album, scheduled for release in late 2024. Julanda believes she has improved considerably as an artiste.
“I believe so, my voice is stronger and I’m more confident. If you listen well, you can hear it in the songs,” she said.
For the remainder of 2024, Julanda will focus on recording songs for her yet-titled album and studying the dynamics of healthcare. A bright future awaits her on both fronts.
